MotoGP Qatar Combined FP3: Alex Rins leads as Quartararo pushed to Q1

Quartararo will qualify via Q1 today after losing out in the last moments of FP3.

Alex Rins continues to lead heading into qualifying later today as World Champion Fabio Quartararo fails to make it into the Q2 session thanks to a late lap from Enea Bastianini that promoted the GP21 rider to P5 overall, securing his spot in Q2.

None of the top four riders in the session improved their sessions and honestly there wasn’t much need to, they had all done the hard work yesterday and had secured their Q2 spots in FP2 thanks to the better track conditions that the evening sessions provide, it was very difficult for riders in FP3 to improve their times.

The first two improvers were Enea Bastianini and Pol Espargaro who set incredibly late lap times to secure themselves a Q2 spot, Pol Espargaro improving from the dropzone of P10 to P5 (before dropping to P6) and Enea Bastianini improving from P12 to P5 to drop Fabio Quartararo into Q1 and proving how important Pol Espargaro’s lap time was.

Franco Morbidelli was the fastest Yamaha in a strong P7, he failed to improve his time but with a Q2 spot in the bag he won’t be fussed, over in Ducati though there will be many smiles with Francesco Bagnaia and Jack Miller salvaging their terrible Friday and bagging Q2 spots with Aleix Espargaro the last rider in Q2.

Being forced to go via Q1 alongside Fabio Quartararo are Brad Binder, Miguel Oliveira, Alex Marquez, Johann Zarco and Maverick Vinales.
