Moto2 Assen FP3: Raul Fernandez back on top after crash

Raul Fernandez leads the way in the FP3 Moto2 session despite a crash.

Raul Fernandez leads the way in FP3 despite taking his second crash of the season during the session, the Spanish rider returning to the top after trailing a little in the tricky conditions yesterday, he leads Marco Bezzecchi by a mere 0.199 seconds with ‘Bez’ performing well this weekend in the intermediate class after recovering his weekend massively going into qualifying in P19 last weekend in Germany.

The Boscocuro chassis has also performed well this weekend with Jorge Navarro and Aron Canet both ending sessions at the top end of the timesheets, of the two it was Jorge Navarro who was the quickest man out there finishing in third place locking himself in a position in the Q2 session later today ahead of Somkiat Chantra who has had a sudden burst of speed this weekend and is consistently running in the top positions ahead of Sam Lowes.

Moto2 title leader Remy Gardner was the sixth-placed rider, Remy has struggled here a lot this weekend with the intermediate conditions forcing riders to swap between wet and dry set ups multiple times, despite this Remy has still gotten himself into the top 6 and Q2 session ahead of rookie Ai Ogura who is another rider massively impressing this season with fellow rookies Celestino Vietti and Tony Arbolino joining him in Q2 and the top 10!

A welcome surprise to the Q2 session is Lorenzo Dalla Porta who is slowly but surely finding his feet in the Moto2 class making some decent progress these past few races, sadly some bad luck has meant he’s been unable to prove this in the races.

The Petronas Moto2 boys have both finished outside of the top 10 but are within 0.6 of P1 down in P16 and P17, Moto2 is back to its competitive nature with 24 riders within 0.734 seconds to P1.
