Moto3 Qatar FP2: Izan Guevara finishes Friday’s sessions on top

Izan Guevara finishes up the first Friday of 2022 in P1.

It was a scrap for the top spot in the last moments of the Moto3 session with every rider trying to push their way into a provisional Q2 spot, many riders were on top with Dennis Foggia, John McPhee and Izan Guevara both exchanging positions for P1 in the last few minutes. Guevara was able to smash in a lap time worthy of P1 with a huge gap of 0.424 to McPhee in P2 to establish dominance of the lightweight class today, finishing up in third was the revitalised Tatsuki Suzuki.

Sergio Garcia spent much of the session racing around on the dropzone for Q1 before putting in a late lap time to finish up in a very strong P4 leading Andrea Migno then Jaume Masia in sixth place, both riders looking strong but needing something special this year if they want to progress up into Moto2 for 2023.

Carlos Tatay finished up in a strong P7, the Spanish rider has struggled in 2020 and 2021 in the Avintia squad after winning the Red Bull Rookies in 2019, he has changed over to Prustel this year and really does look to be comfortable alongside race winner Xavier Artigas who finished up in P9, the pair sandwiching in Dennis Foggia in P8 who had a lap time cancelled.

Riccardo Rossi rounded out the top 10 ahead of Kaito Toba with Joel Kelso the only rookie of the session to place in a provisional Q2 spot in P13.
