WorldSBK Donington Race 2: Toprak Razgatlıoğlu wins taking title lead

Toprak Razgatlıoğlu wins Race 2 at Donington Park taking the title lead!

Toprak Razgatlıoğlu has said previously that he likes Donington Park and he’s proven that this weekend as he takes another victory in WorldSBK capitalising from a mistake from Jonathan Rea, this victory means he is now two points clear in the championship after Rea crashed out of the race in a very rare mistake. The duo have been going head to head all weekend with the pressure rising race by race, eventually, Toprak was victorious in the mind games but is not thinking about the championship just yet as it’s a long season with many races to go.

This form from the Turkish rider has been incredible these past few rounds and he has solidified himself as a true title contender putting Rea to the test this year, he is the first-ever Turkish World Superbike championship leader making his way through the pack today to lead the race and once again take another victory.

Garrett Gerloff took a very respectable second place, the American rider is celebrating Independence Day today on 4th July and there’s no better way to mark this than with a podium following a crash yesterday out of podium contention. You know full well that there will be eyes on him from the MotoGP paddock from Yamaha ahead of 2021, this podium aids him greatly in his goal of reaching MotoGP.

Tom Sykes takes his second podium of the weekend in front of British fans, the BMW rider handing BMW some very solid results after struggling a little earlier this year, Sykes beat Scott Redding who takes his first points of the weekend after crashing out of Race 1 and choosing the wrong tyres in the sprint race finishing in P18, for Redding it’s absolutely a weekend to forget but he can take some solitude knowing that all of the Ducati’s struggled around Donington Park with Davies in P7 and Rinaldi in P8.

Michael van der Mark once again had a strong race, the Dutchman finishing in the top 5 for all three races this weekend including a podium finish in the sprint race. It’s the start of the light at the end of the tunnel for Van der Mark and BMW who left his comfy contract with Yamaha at the end of 2020 to take on a new opportunity with BMW on their new BMW M 1000RR which was unproven at the time.

Leon Haslam and Alvaro Bautista rounded off the top 10 on the Honda’s, the bike still struggling slightly but making solid progress round by round.

For Jonathan Rea it was a complete disaster, the 6 times World Champion finished his race in P20 ending his 100% podium record this year.
