Moto3 Qatar Qualifying: Izan Guevara takes first Moto3 pole position
Izan Guevara takes his first Moto3 pole after a scary session.
Future star Izan Guevara has taken his first-ever Moto3 pole position in Qatar, a circuit that he took a P2 start last year at in his Moto3 class debut, he’s looked strong all weekend long leading the way during free practice and has backed it up with pole position.
Joining Izan on the front row is Q1 leader Ayumu Sasaki then Jaume Masia, it was a pretty scary end to the session with the riders dodging and weaving their way down the straight, there’s no doubt there will be some penalties handed out.
Surprisingly Dennis Foggia was unable to back up the shades of speed he’s shown in free practice and qualified in a disappointing P5, it still gives him the chance to fight tomorrow during the race but it’s not ideal for the Italian rider, he finished behind countryman Andrea Migno and ahead of Ryusei Yamanaka who’s made a huge step in pre-season with the MT Helmets – MSI squad.
Heading row three was John McPhee joining title favourite Sergio Garcia and Tatsuki Suzuki, an incredibly strong row three, all three riders expected to battle for the podium tomorrow.
Rookie Ivan Ortola was the 10th fastest rider and the quickest rookie, he’s shown previously to be a very fast adapter and this is proof in the pudding, he’s joined on row four by Carlos Tatay and Deniz Oncu.
During the Q1 session it was a hard-fought battle with Ayumu Sasaki banging in an early lap towing around rookie Ivan Ortola, 3 of the 4 that passed through were rookies including Daniel Holgado and Matteo Bertelle. British rider Scott Ogden was incredibly close also barely missing out.
