MotoGP Mugello FP1: Maverick Vinales leads in Mugello

Maverick Vinales takes the top spot in the FP1 session at Mugello.

Brand new father Maverick Vinales has celebrated the birth of his child by taking P1 this morning in Mugello, the Spanish rider has a name for himself by performing early on into the weekends before dipping over the weekend, maybe this weekend will be the time he can stay level and battle for the win on Sunday? He leads Johann Zarco who is surprisingly the only Ducati in the top 5, given their top speed advantage and huge acceleration we expected them to lead given the 1.1km straight Mugello has to offer but evidently not with Yamaha and Suzuki dominating the top 5.

It was a Suzuki duo in P3 and P4 as Alex Rins leads his teammate Joan Mir, Rins will be hoping and praying to get back to form after suffering 4 crashes in the final three races, a points-scoring finish here in Mugello will be a huge improvement on recent times, the duo leads Franco Morbidelli in P5 who may need to go under the knife for his knee problem at some point this year.

Finally, we see some more Ducati’s in the top 10 with Francesco Bagnaia in P6 leading replacement rider Michele Pirro who has done more laps around Mugello on the Ducati than anyone, the duo lead Fabio Quartararo in P8 with Jack Miller running behind in P9, the Australian aiming to take his third consecutive win this weekend with Miguel Oliveira rounding off the top 10.

Further down we see the Repsol Honda’s struggling slightly with Pol Espargaro in P12 with his awful Minions helmet (controversial I know) and Marc Marquez in P16 leading Valentino Rossi in P17.
