Moto2 Mugello FP1: Joe Roberts goes top

Joe Roberts kicks off his weekend in Tuscany in P1.

American Joe Roberts starts his weekend in the best way possible taking P1 in this mornings FP1 session as the top 5 riders all carry different flags and nationalities, just behind Roberts in P2 is Remy Gardner who currently leads the Moto2 World Championship by only one point over his teammate Raul Fernandez who finished the session in P4, the rookie already winning two races so far in his debut season in the intermediate class, Remy and Joe were the only two riders under the 1:52 time bracket.

Sam Lowes finished the session in third place and needs to get his championship charge back on track after slipping slightly now in P4 23 points from Gardner despite winning the opening two races, the British rider needs a race win here to get himself back into contention, in P5 we see Tony Arbolino who has won here previously in Moto3, the Italian struggled in the opening few rounds but seemingly has found something which has catapulted him up the order in Moto2.

Augusto Fernandez is seemingly back in form however now faces the issue of not being able to stay on two wheels, if he can stop his crashing he will be a contender for the race win in P6 leading Xavi Vierge and Marco Bezzecchi as Fabio Di Giannantonio rounds off the top 10 with Hafizh Syahrin making some positive steps in P12.

16-year-old Fermin Aldeguer is worth a mention, the rider makes his Moto2 debut this weekend and finished FP1 in P21 only 0.036 behind his experienced teammate Jorge Navarro, Aldeguer is the youngest riders in all classes born in 2005.
