Moto2 Mugello FP2: Sam Lowes back on top

Sam Lowes takes the top step in the FP2 session at Mugello.

Sam Lowes set the fastest time in the Moto2 FP2 session this afternoon in Mugello as he continues to battle for the Moto2 championship against some of the fastest riders the grid has ever seen, one rider who is making it very difficult is the rookie sat in P2, Raul Fernandez set the second quickest time in the session only 0.184 seconds off Lowes’ time. The Spanish rider has impressed many this year and is only one point behind his teammate Remy Gardner in the Moto2 Championship standings, the duo lead Jorge Navarro in P3.

It’s an Italian trio in P4 to P6 with Marco Bezzecchi, Tony Arbolino and Fabio Di Giannantonio all scrapping it out to be the best Italian rider at their home round with Arbolino really impressing off the back of a strong P4 in Le Mans, long may it continue.

Remy Gardner came home in P7 as he tries to extend his lead over the masses with Xavi Vierge and Joe Roberts just behind as Marcel Schrotter rounded off the top 10.

Augusto Fernandez finds himself outside of the top 10 but still within the Q2 parameters ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying and impressive 16-year-old Fermin Aldeguer finished in P19 1.336 from P1.
