MotoGP Portimao: Miguel Oliveira takes P1 at home as Aprilia impress

Miguel Oliveira takes P1 in his last lap, doing it for Portugal.

In his last lap of the session, Miguel Oliveira takes P1 overall in the FP1 session, initially leading the session at the beginning, expected given no other rider has done as many laps around Portimao as him.

Maverick Vinales was the second-placed rider, leading for most of the session before Oliveira did the business at the end, Vinales leads an Aprilia duo of Aleix Espargaro then Lorenzo Savadori, Espargaro has ridden the RS-GP here before at the test earlier this season whilst Savadori has the benefit of riding here many times in WorldSBK.

Pol Espargaro was next up in his last KTM FP1 session, finishing in P5, 0.558 from fellow KTM Oliveira in P1, Cal Crutchlow followed Espargaro in P6 in his last full-time MotoGP race before heading to Yamaha as their test rider.

The 2020 MotoGP World Champion Joan Mir took P7 in the session ahead of Fabio Quartararo who is looking to improve on his P5 in the standings.

The top 10 is rounded off by two Honda’s, namely Takaaki Nakagami, still searching for his debut MotoGP podium and Stefan Bradl who has WorldSBK experience here.
