Johann Zarco to undergo wrist surgery following crash in Austria

Johann Zarco will undergo wrist surgery on Wednesday after a fracture was found on Monday following his crash in Austria on Sunday.

The Frenchman collided with Franco Morbidelli on lap nine of the Austrian GP between turn 2 and turn 3.

The crash was monumental, sending their bikes speeding towards Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi with the pair narrowly missing the missles.

At the time both Zarco and Morbidelli thought they were fine with Zarco saying he was ok with a few burns, however following a check up, Zarco has fractured his right scaphoid and will be operated on in Italy on Wednesday.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Zarco said, “It’s a classic procedure, with the placement of a screw to fix the broken bone, I will be back in Austria on Thursday morning for a medical check-up to see whether or not I am able to ride this weekend for the second race organised at the Red Bull Ring.”
