MotoGP Aragon FP1: Marc Marquez leads by nearly one second

Marc Marquez made a statement of intent this morning in FP1.

Marc Marquez made a point to the rest of the MotoGP field this morning leading the FP1 session by nearly a full second over Joan Mir in second place, the Honda Repsol rider returns to the first anti-clockwise track since Sachsenring where he was able to take a stunning 11th consecutive victory at the circuit, heading to Aragon there was no doubt that he would be competitive and strong leading the FP1 session.

Following Marquez was Joan Mir on the Suzuki, last year Suzuki proved they were strong at the track with Alex Rins taking a victory and both Suzuki boys appearing on the box across the two races, going back further and we know that Andrea Iannone put the Suzuki on the podium here back in 2018 and Maverick Vinales finished in fourth in 2016, the Suzuki likes the track, scratch that, Suzuki love the track and there’s no doubt we will see them battling at the front during this weekends race, Mir led Bagnaia then Alex Marquez.

Alex Marquez joined his brother in the top 4, Alex is no stranger to Aragon taking a dry podium here last year before battling for the victory in Race 2 before a crash knocked him out of contention, he is another one to watch this weekend leading Jack Miller by 0.056 seconds.

Silverstone podium man Aleix Espargaro finished up in sixth and will be hoping to double up in Aragon, he spent the first part of the session aiding new-teammate Maverick Vinales who has made his MotoGP return with Aprilia after his Yamaha split, ‘Top Gun’ using the session to continue to adapt and try and find his own settings after using Aleix’s.

Title leader Fabio Quartararo finished in eighth place ahead of Honda duo Takaaki Nakagami then Pol Espargaro with some surprises lurking down the order including Jorge Martin in P17 and the Factory KTM boys in P18 and P20.
