Moto2 Aragon FP1: Jorge Navarro in form

Jorge Navarro was the quickest rider in the Moto2 FP1 session.

Jorge Navarro has returned to his former self at Aragon and Silverstone following some front end upgrades which have dramatically improved his feel in the front end after struggling after Dunlop changed the tyre profile at the end of 2019, this was to the demise of multiple riders including Augusto Fernandez who’s 2020 was less than ideal following from a strong 2019 season the year before. Speed Up rider Jorge Navarro has returned to the front as we are used to thanks to this upgrade leading Sam Lowes in P2 by a massive 0.473 seconds with Marco Bezzecchi in third place.

Taking fourth place was the previously mentioned Augusto Fernandez who put both Marc VDS riders within the top four, Augusto has been officially confirmed to replace his namesake Raul Fernandez in the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad for 2022 pairing up with Pedro Acosta, rounding out the top 5 is Remy Gardner.

Last years race leader Fabio Di Giannantonio finished in P6 leading Raul Fernandez and Fermin Aldeguer who took an impressive P8, the 16-year-old has already secured Moto2 wins at the track in 2021 in the FIM CEV and knows Aragon incredibly well, therefore it’s no surprise to see him this high up in FP1 leading fellow ex-CEV riders Hector Garzo and Albert Arenas, the Boscoscuro chassis strong at the circuit.

Hafizh Syahrin took a strong P11 as some names fell further down the order including Ai Ogura in P17 and 2022 Marc VDS rider Tony Arbolino in P25.

John McPhee also made his Moto2 debut finishing in P32, 4.6 seconds from Navarro.
