Moto2 title leader Remy Gardner leads the FP1 session.
Remy Gardner took the honours in the Moto2 FP1 session leading the way around the Sachsenring circuit in Germany, Gardner is destroying the field this year in the intermediate class and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down with his teammate being the only rider who has challenged him so far this year. Gardner led the MotoGP bound Fabio Di Giannantonio, it was announced yesterday the Italian will step up to MotoGP with the Gresini team on a Ducati being paired up with Enea Bastianini, this announcement has seemingly spurred him on to do well today in Germany.
Catalan podium finisher Xavi Vierge finished in third place this morning in the FP1 session, his surprising podium last time out was the first for the Petronas SRT Moto2 team and their best result in the class so far after winning races in both MotoGP and Moto3. Raul Fernandez led Augusto Fernandez to fifth place, the unrelated duo have had some impressive races recently and are major shouts for the podium this weekend.
Lorenzo Dalla Porta is a very unexpected name, the 2019 Moto3 World Champion has struggled hugely since his move to Moto2 but has been working with his team and his teammate Joe Roberts to improve on his lap times as a move out of the class could be on the cards if he cannot perform, a P6 this morning is hugely impressive from the Italian who’s size hints that he’s stronger on smaller machinery.
Sam Lowes took the 7th spot 0.028 seconds ahead of Jorge Navarro on the Boscoscuro chassis with title contender Marco Bezzecchi following up in P9, the Italian aiming for a rostrum finish here this weekend to keep his title hopes alive as he heads to MotoGP for 2022 which is the worst guarded secret the world has ever seen.
Tony Arbolino capped off the top 10 as sensation Fermin Aldeguer finishes in P21 only 1.044 seconds from P1 at a track he’s never seen before.
