Moto2 Catalunya Race: Remy Gardner goes back to back

Remy Gardner takes his second victory in a KTM Ajo 1-2 finish.

Remy Gardner took his second victory of the year doubling up on last weeks win at Mugello, the Australian rider is in the form of his career and has proven once again why he is so strong leading the race in the opening laps. He was hunted down over the race by his teammate Raul Fernandez who he bested by 0.014 seconds at Mugello with Fernandez making an early overtake to lead the race until Remy was able to attack back again on lap 20 with just two to go, it would end with Remy Gardner once again winning the race ahead of his teammate Raul Fernandez, the duo leading nearly every session this weekend and are in incredible form despite Fernandez being a rookie.

Xavi Vierge had a very strong race finishing in third place which was his first podium since 2018 at Philip Island when he rode for the IntactGP team, Vierge has proven time and time again that he’s got the speed for consistent podiums and hopefully this podium will fire some confidence in him to continue to do this and bag some more, he overtook Bo Bendsneyder with 7 laps to go with Bo running in a solid P3 throughout the race, unfortunately for Bo he dropped back to P6 by the end of the race but a P6 is a solid haul of points on the board for the Dutchman.

Marco Bezzecchi finished the race in fourth place, a great result from the Italian who is highly pipped to move to MotoGP for 2022 with the VR46 Ducati team which will take over from the Avintia squad, he led Augusto Fernandez in P5, the Spanish rider has struggled all year long and arrived at Catalunya with 4 consecutive DNF’s to his name, he leaves with a very strong P5 finish.

There is some essence of luck for Sam Lowes today who clings on to P4 a massive 66 points from Remy Gardner in the lead, Sam Lowes has come into the weekend off the back of many crashes and like his teammate has been able to get some strong points of the board in P7 to help to push his championship charge forwards.

We did face many crashes in the intermediate class with Fabio Di Gianntonio swiping off the front of Hector Garzo causing them both to crash, not a good finish to the weekend for the Italian who remains ahead of Joe Roberts in the championship sat in fifth place.
