MotoGP Qatar Warm Up: Yamaha go 1-2 as Quartararo leads
Yamaha takes a 1-2 in the warm-up session at Qatar as Quartararo leads.
The lap times continue to slow down in Qatar as the warm-up lap times run 3 seconds slower than the lap record following high winds covering the track in a later of dust and sand. Despite this Fabio Quartararo was able to take the top spot overall with his teammate Vinales 0.138 behind him in P2, Yamaha aiming to strike back at Ducati today following Bagnaia’s pole position yesterday.
It will be an interesting race as Yamaha and Ducati have locked out the top 6 grid places with Bagnaia, Miller and Zarco occupying the P1, P5 and P6 spots with Miller saying he feels he can arrive in P2 by the first corner of the race. Yamaha place in P2, P3 and P4 on the grid in the order of Quartararo, Vinales then Rossi but are likely to struggle against Ducati’s superior Mach 10 speed.
Coming back to the warm-up Johann Zarco was able to finish up in P3 ahead of a Honda triple led by the LCR duo of Alex Marquez in P4 and Takaaki Nakagami in P5 with Pol Espargaro in P6 as Stefan Bradl helps Pol make a Bastianini sandwich in P8 as rookie Enea Bastianini finishes up in P7 between the orange Repsol Honda’s. Continuing on this bizarre sandwich torrent we see Bradl acting as the filling of an Avintia sandwich as Marini arrives in P9 with Franco Morbidelli capping off the session in P10.
The factory Ducati boys finish up in P15 and P21 but it’s hardly something to worry about for the boys in red, in the meantime, I am off to make a sandwich.
