MotoGP: Andrea Dovizioso could be announced as a Yamaha test rider in coming weeks
The rumours about Andrea Dovizioso never seem to stop, however, it seems this one has more traction than most.
It is being reported by Motorsport.com, Corsedimoto.com, Motorsport-total.com and various other sources that Andrea Dovizioso could be off to Yamaha as their test rider, a manufacturer he rode for in 2012 after leaving Repsol Honda, he raced for the Tech3 team and scored 6 x podiums in 18 races taking P4 overall in the standings.
This also follows rumours that Jorge Lorenzo may be splitting with Yamaha as their test rider following a dream reunion, it is understood that Yamaha are not happy with Lorenzo negotiating with Ducati regarding a 2021 seat. In 2020, Lorenzo has ridden the M1 for just 4 days in nearly 11 months, yes we have had COVID-19 ruin things but other manufacturers have tested a lot more than this.
This is not forgetting that Yamaha have only supplied Lorenzo with a 2019 M1, even at the Portimao test, an indication of a divorce, if so, this would be Yamaha’s 3rd test rider in as many seasons, giving Jonas Folger the boot and now potentially Jorge Lorenzo, it is like they don’t even want to fix their motorcycle.
Dovizioso held talks with Aprilia but he is no longer on their radar, signing a pre-contract with Cal Crutchlow instead. Dovizioso to Yamaha could be confirmed as early as before the ValencianGP.
