MotoGP: Jorge Lorenzo rumoured to go to Aprilia as their test rider

With Bradley Smith being replaced by test rider Lorenzo Savadori and Cal Crutchlow likely to join the team, rumours have appeared about Jorge Lorenzo.

Speedweek.com have suggested that Jorge Lorenzo will move to Aprilia as their test rider.

Following his retirement at the end of the 2019 season, Jorge Lorenzo signed for Yamaha to be their European test rider with wild cards planned, however, COVID-19 put a stop to this.

Lorenzo had 15-16 testing days planned with Yamaha which have not gone ahead, only riding the Yamaha twice, once at Sepang for two days and once at Portimao for two days, both on the 2019 spec Yamaha M1.

Not to mention, when Valentino Rossi tested positive for COVID-19, Lorenzo was not asked by Yamaha to replace him for the Aragon round.

Lorenzo has become out of favour with Yamaha as it was confirmed he held talks with Ducati about a 2021 return which led to nothing, this has led to Yamaha looking to replace Lorenzo with Andrea Dovizioso as their test rider.

This is where Aprilia come in, Aprilia are looking for a new test rider as it looks like Cal Crutchlow will replace Andrea Iannone in the team, Lorenzo would slot in next to Savadori as the test rider.

With Dani Pedrosa turning KTM around, this could be a grand opportunity for Lorenzo to do the same with Aprilia, only time will tell.
