Moto2 Indonesia FP1: Sam Lowes heads the middleweight field in Indonesia

Sam Lowes takes the honours as the first Moto2 leader in Indonesia.

Moto2 have made their debut in Indonesia with Sam Lowes taking the honours as the fastest rider after setting a late lap time on slick tyres to lead the session, this time was worth a full second over second-placed Joe Roberts who blasts his way up the order looking strong in this opening session with Lowes’ teammate Tony Arbolino in third place.

QatarGP race winner Celestino Vietti’s form hasn’t slipped with the Italian coming home with fourth place a massive 2.623 seconds from P1 despite only being in P4 as Jake Dixon rounded out the top 5 of the session.

It was the youngsters and rookies that looked strong with Fermin Aldeguer placing in P6 ahead of rookie Alessandro Zaccone, the new track of Mandalika proving to be a great leveller for the class, Sean Dylan Kelly proving this in P9, the American rider another to go out on slick tyres.

Romano Fenati rounded out the top 10 ahead of rookie Pedro Acosta.
