MotoGP Valencia FP1: Iker Lecuona opens last race weekend in P1

Iker Lecuona starts his last MotoGP weekend in P1 at Valencia.

Iker Lecuona bows out of MotoGP leading the way in his final FP1 session starting as he means to go on in wet conditions, historically has always gone very quickly in the wet if you remember the Austrian Grand Prix where he battled around on slick tyres in the wet following Brad Binder’s heroic antics, he led Jack Miller in second place who suffered a crash on the treacherous paint on the outside of turn one, innocently running off and grabbing the brake being slung off his Ducati.

KTM once again proved their pace in tricky conditions as Miguel Oliveira comes home in third place only 0.006 seconds behind Miller, Oliveira will be praying for a strong result this weekend after a pretty tough season, he took three great results at the midpoint before suffering down the order race after race. He finished 0.210 seconds ahead of Johann Zarco with Joan Mir a further 0.003 seconds back in fifth place.

MotoGP’s runner up Francesco Bagnaia was sixth fastest ahead of fellow Ducati man and a VR46 Riders Academy duo with Luca Marini in seventh and the steadily improving Franco Morbidelli who is building more and more strength back into that injured knee.

Rounding out the top 10 were a Honda duo of Pol Espargaro then Takaaki Nakagami with Alex Rins in eleventh, world champion Fabio Quartararo finished in P15 struggling once again in the wet.
