Moto3 COTA FP2: Filip Salac finds his way to P1

Filip Salac goes fastest in a dry FP2 session.

Filip Salac was the fastest rider in Moto3’s second session of the dry, the session was finally dry allowing the Moto3 riders to gain solid data for the weekend ahead of Sunday’s race, it also allowed over 1/3rd of the grid to learn the track in dry conditions with many riders never setting foot here in their Moto3 careers.

In the Moto3 FP1 session it was Salac who went fastest late on in the session ahead of Niccolo Antonelli who led this morning’s FP2 session in the rain, the pair were split by only 0.086 seconds etching closer to the 2:16 lap times. In third place Dennis Foggia closed up a massive gap after finishing way down the order in FP1 to prove he is still in title contention here as he chips into Pedro Acosta’s lead race by race.

Finishing just behind Foggia was Jaume Masia ahead of Xavier Artigas who rounded out the top 5, Artigas saving an incredible front end crash on his elbow to save the team a crash damage bill and get him some cool points in Austin and maybe some social media engagement.

In sixth place was Andrea Migno, the Italian rider only 0.286 from Salac head of Pedro Acosta who currently leads the standings by 42 points, he will be desperately trying to etch the gap over 50 points this weekend to ensure he can win the title next time out in Misano but with Foggia and Garcia so strong it won’t be easy!

Rounding out the top 10 was John McPhee behind Romano Fenati and Deniz Oncu in P8 and P9 respectively as Sergio Garcia finished down in P14, still in a provisional Q2 spot.
