Moto2 Emilia Romagna FP1: Augusto Fernandez leads wet crash filled session

Augusto Fernandez was the fastest man in FP1 at Misano in the rain.

Augusto Fernandez was the fastest man in the FP1 session at Misano in the rain which claimed many riders sending them to the gravel trap and costing their teams some money in repair bills, one rider who has been able to achieve the opposite and save a crash was Bo Bendsneyder who was flicked over the top of his Kalex yet saved the crash keeping the bike upright and holding on for dear life eventually bringing his machine to a steady stop.

Going back to the results, Fernandez led the way over Niccolo Bulega by 0.219 seconds, both riders looking strong in the tricky conditions as Moto2 remains incredibly competitive with 10 riders within 1 second of P1 unlike Moto3 and MotoGP where the gaps were much bigger. Rounding out the top three was Joe Roberts who looked to be enjoying himself on his Kalex in Misano, the American Rider gaining some confidence in the wet conditions which should hopefully continue over the weekend as he looks to regain the form he has been missing as of late.

Coming home in fourth were rookies Tony Arbolino and Celestino Vietti, both riders taking advantage of the ‘great leveller’ that is rain and firing themselves up the timesheets within the top 5, possibly there is some home advantage thrown in there also for good measure, the riders leading Hector Garzo in P6 with home hero Marco Bezzecchi in P7.

Barry Baltus came home in P8 on the NTS only 0.020 seconds to Bezzecchi up ahead with Marcel Schrotter and Raul Fernandez rounding out the top 10 as Cameron Beaubier gets to grips with the wet Misano in P11, returning to Misano after a career-best P5 at COTA.
