WorldSBK Portimao FP2: Rea doubles up in FP2

Jonathan Rea was the fastest rider in FP2 at Portimao.

Jonathan Rea took the top spot once again this afternoon in Portimao following up on this mornings FP1 result of P1, proving he is hugely competitive here this weekend at the Portuguese track which he has taken 12 victories at in his career, he is aiming to add three to his tally this weekend and claw back some vital title points on Toprak Razgatlioglu who yet again placed in fourth place in free practice, stealing the favoured P4 from his teammate Andrea Locatelli who no doubt will take a P4 race finish at some point this weekend.

Alex Lowes finished in second place behind his teammate Rea only 0.191 seconds back, the British rider needs to come into the title fight and aid Rea as much as he can, he’s struggled with injury recently which has negatively affected the whole team as he has been unable to fight to take second place behind Rea and take vital title points off Razgatlioglum, hopefully now he can aid Kawasaki in the title fight, Leon Haslam was third.

Rounding off the top 5 was Garrett Gerloff then Loris Baz, both were seriously impressive and have been in the races they have competed in this year. Gerloff has struggled recently following the high profile incidents he’s had this year taking out Rinaldi, Rea and Razgatlioglu but he looks to be reigniting the spark.

Scott Redding led the pair of Aruba.it Ducati’s in P7 and P8, Redding is happy and content in his title fight and knows that if he wants to win his rivals need to drop points and is relying on that to fight for the title, he is in form and is taking strong results.

Rounding out the top 10 were Alvaro Bautista then Andrea Locatelli in P10.
