Moto3 Misano Qualifying: Romano Fenati leads Italian 1-2-3-4
The Italians dominated today in Moto3 qualifying.
It was an Italian 1-2-3-4 today in the Moto3 qualifying with the current and ex-VR46 Riders Academy riders topping the session, no surprise really given how many laps they have spun around here over the years. For Fenati it was a fairly surprising and impressive pole position with a massive 0.257 seconds to Dennis Foggia in second place despite being stuck behind Stefano Nepa in his very last lap of the track, by this time all the times had been settled apart from Fenati who was riding around with the clock at 0:00 stuck behind Nepa with no option of passing. At this point Fenati was forced to hold on, grit his teeth and pray it was enough for pole, thankfully for the Moto3 veteran it was indeed sufficient handing him pole position demoting Foggia to second place.
Joining the duo on the front row was Niccolo Antonelli with Andrea Migno in fourth, after his DNF at Silverstone Migno was very sad and disappointed because he said it felt like the old days when these four riders would train and race together, now he gets to relive the past once again riding with his old friends and old academy partners.
Migno was joined by Jaume Masia and Xavier Artigas on row two, Artigas was tantalisingly close to a podium last time out before a reckless Pedro Acosta booted him out the race with a crash, this time out Artigas has another chance at the podium but he has to beat the Italians first.
Surrounding the Spaniards in P5 and P6 were two more Italians of Riccardo Rossi in P7 and wildcard Elia Bartolini in P8 who put the VR46 machine into an incredibly impressive top 10 start ahead of title leader Pedro Acosta and Carlos Tatay, what can we say, the Italians love Misano!
Big shoutout to wildcard Matteo Bertelle in P15, the Italian wildcard comes from the CIV and Red Bull Rookies and has stunned to take P15, really really impressive debut!
