WorldSBK Catalunya FP1: Jonathan Rea edges out Toprak

Jonathan Rea led the FP1 session in Catalunya over Razgatlioglu.

Jonathan Rea led the way in the FP1 session at a warm Catalunya, Rea aims to retake the title lead after a disastrous weekend in Magny Cours which saw title rival Toprak Razgatlioglu win all three races with Rea being saved following a protest from Kawasaki for track limit infringements from Razgatlioglu on the last lap which handed Rea the Superpole race victory, this time out Rea will be desperate to take some wins via finishing in P1 and not from the steward’s room.

Razgatlioglu took second only 0.159 seconds behind Rea with Tom Sykes in third, Sykes getting a little angry at being stuck behind Epis who was getting to grips with his Kawasaki after being chucked into the deep end this weekend. Alex Lowes took home P4 ahead of Andrea Locatelli who seems to love the number 4 these days finishing fourth in nearly every race recently alongside fourth in the standings, super impressive by the rookie.

Leon Haslam took home P6 on the Honda leading Michael Ruben Rinaldi then fastest independent rider Garrett Gerloff with Isaac Vinales rounding out the top 10. For Scott Redding it was a disaster finishing up in P13 ahead of Alvaro Bautista and Chaz Davies.
