Moto2 Silverstone FP2: Raul Fernandez strikes again
Raul Fernandez takes the top spot in the FP2 session at Silverstone.
Raul Fernandez led the way in the Moto2 FP2 session as the lap times came incredibly close to the lap record, Fernandez’ best time was only 0.127 seconds from the record of Alex Marquez set in 2019, given that Jorge Navarro is only 0.017 back from Fernandez we can expect lap records to be obliterated tomorrow, especially as it is expected to get much warmer as the weekend goes on.
One man who is expecting to get pole position tomorrow and the win on Sunday is Sam Lowes, the British rider finished the session in P3 ahead of his teammate Augusto Fernandez in P4. Lowes has said multiple times leading up to this weekend that he is desperate to take a victory in the Moto2 class at his home GP, this is one of his best opportunities yet to nail it down and get that home win, he will have to make up some time though if he wants to do it, he finished third a massive 0.297 seconds back from Navarro in P2.
In fifth place was Remy Gardner, the Australian rider only 0.100 seconds behind Lowes in third place, Gardner made a rare mistake running on during the session but was thankfully unharmed not suffering any damage or a crash. A massive 0.280 seconds behind Remy was Fabio Diggia in sixth ahead of crasher Marco Bezzecchi who escaped unharmed.
Joe Roberts finished up in eighth ahead of Niccolo Bulega and the Boscoscuro chassis’ rider Aron Canet in P10 with Ai Ogura and Bo Bendsneyder also securing provisional Q2 spots ahead of qualifying tomorrow. For some riders it’s going to be a case of either improving in FP3 or going via the dreaded Q1 session, this includes Fermin Aldeguer, Tony Arbolino, Marcel Schrotter and Lorenzo Dalla Porta.
