MotoGP: Gresini confirm move to Ducati plus rider line up

Gresini Racing have confirmed a Ducati move and their 2022 lineup.

The Gresini Racing team have confirmed that they will use Ducati machinery for 2022 and 2023 with riders Enea Bastianini and Fabio Di Giannantonio, this follows last years confirmation that they will once again become an independent team for 2022. This news sparked lots of interest and talks from people with many wondering which manufacturer will be their chosen steed of choice.

Logically Ducati always made sense but there were talks of Suzuki and even satellite Aprilia’s, but with ex-rider Enea Bastianini being a Ducati rider and the Avintia team being sold off to VR46 it made sense for the team to run their 2014, 2015 and 2016 rider Enea Bastianini who is already on a Ducati contract alongside his 2015 and 2016 teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio who has earned himself a MotoGP promotion following his debut Moto2 win this year and some strong results. The duo will reunite on Ducati machinery under the Gresini banner with the Aprilia team launching a full factory Aprilia effort separate to the Gresini squad.

Nadia Padovani – Team Owner and Principal: “It’s a very emotional moment for each of us. In previous months, our efforts merged with a strong emotional push to shape the future of Gresini Racing, and now are immensely proud and happy to make the official announcement. It is a project born out of continuity and based on values upon which Fausto built this amazing institution. My thank you goes first and foremost to Carmelo Ezpeleta for making sure we never felt alone during these months, to Ducati for trusting our projects, to Flex-Box who joined us in this new challenge as title sponsor and obviously to Fabio and Enea: I’m sure they will give their best to wave the Gresini Racing banner high.”

Gigi Dall’igna – Ducati Corse: “We’re incredibly happy to have reached this agreement with Gresini Racing for the next two MotoGP seasons. We had laid down the foundations of a possible agreement with Fausto already at the end of last year and we would like to thank – from the bottom of our hearts – his family for carrying this project forward with us. Gresini Racing has been an especially important institution in MotoGP for many years and we are confident this partnership, which can count on two very talented riders such as Enea and Fabio, will be of great satisfaction for all parties involved.
