Moto2 Qatar FP3: Aron Canet leads as Sam Lowes stays in P1 overall

Aron Canet was the fastest rider in FP3 as the lap times fail to improve.

Moto2 was fairly eventful this morning with many riders crashing including the 16-year-old Barry Baltus who suffered a massive high-side and looked visibly in pain, the young rider is reported to have a fractured wrist. We also saw crashes from Bo Bendnseyder, Jake Dixon and Marcos Ramirez to name a few.

In the timing side of things, no rider was able to improve their time from Friday meaning we will be seeing many riders including Fabio Di Giannantonio, Stefano Manzi and Augusto Fernandez aiming to make their way into the Q2 session after a tough Friday saw them way down the standings.

Aron Canet was the fastest rider in the FP3 session and coincidentally is also the last rider to make it into the Q2 session with his time worthy of P14 overall set on Friday, he led the FP3 session by 0.291 over Joe Roberts who is getting to grips with the Italtrans Moto2 squad following from his move over into the Moto2 title-winning team, the duo are followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio in third place who has moved from Speed Up to the Kalex chassis this year as he eyes up the title with a MotoGP move on the cards for 2022 with the Gresini team.

P4 sits Celestino Vietti, the Moto3 star makes his way into Moto2 remaining with the Sky VR46 team who he took 2 wins and 8 podiums with including a podium in only his second race in the class as a replacement rider in 2018, he is now continuing his adaptation to Moto2 and is taking tips from his experienced teammate Marco Bezzecchi following him around the track, he leads Sam Lowes who is fastest overall with Arenas running behind them in P6, the 2020 Moto3 champion another rookie running with the Boscoscuro chassis remaining with the Aspar team.

Marcel Schrotter finished the session in P7 overall safe with the knowledge that he has the pass to go straight into Q2 today leading Remy Gardner in P8 and Bezzecchi in P9 with Niccolo Bulega capping off the top 10. Further down the field we see Xavi Vierge in P14, the Spaniard is aiming for a strong season this year with P4 overall in the combined standings. Jake Dixon and Bo Bendnseyder in P20 and P24 respectively have their crashes to blame for their times however are both in the Q2 session.
