Moto2: Enea Bastianini is the 2020 Moto2 World Champion
Enea Bastianini has been crowned the 2020 Moto2 crown after an incredibly consistent season.
Enea Bastianini has had an outstanding 2020 Moto2 season, taking advantage of his incredible consistency to take the top prize in Moto2 at the race in Portimao. Bastianini started the season exactly how he meant to go on, on the podium, showing he has serious pace in just his second Moto2 season, not forgetting he already had 1 Moto2 podium to his name from his rookie year in the class at Brno where he was incredibly fast all season long with impressive form and stature in the class.
2020 was always going to be a great year for the Italian, but no one expected him to go out and win the entire thing, eyes were firmly locked on Luca Marini, then Sam Lowes after his trio of wins which pushed ‘Bestia’ down to P2 overall, however his consistency in the following races played a part in his title fight, giving him that extra 10% over his rivals of Sam Lowes and Luca Marini to take the title home.
With three race wins to his name including back to back wins at Andalucia then Brno before the third coming at Misano, Bastianini was a real threat all season long, taking 7 podiums in total, all when he needed them the most, he only had one DNF all season in Austria when he hi-sided out of Turn 1 before his bike was smashed into by Hafizh Syahrin in a horrific incident which saw no one seriously injured.
As his title rivals fell apart around him, he stood strong, he had some luck with Sam Lowes’ incredibly unfortunate injury, but Lowes still made Bastianini work for it and work he did, not stopping and sitting back whilst his rivals were injured but adding that extra 5% he needed to take the title.
Congratulations Enea Bastinaini, the 2020 Moto2 World Champion.
