MotoGP: Franco Morbidelli proud of his season

Franco Morbidelli has had an outstanding season, discovering more about himself in 2020.

Franco Morbidelli has a season he can be proud of, taking three wins for Yamaha in a satellite team, matching teammate Fabio Quartararo with the pair performing better than the factory team in all areas in 2020, he spent 2019 in the shadows of his teammate, now it seems the roles have switched with Frankie showing his talent, outscoring Quartararo with more podiums also.

Morbidelli has said he was able to ‘unlock’ a part of himself in 2020, a part he did not know about which enabled him to ride his Yamaha the way he wanted to, also giving him the chance to be more precise with his evaluation of the bike and knowing what he can do to improve his set up ahead of the race.

“It has been a great season for me, I have been able to discover a part of myself I didn’t know,” said Morbidelli.

“When I crashed in Malaysia, I realised that I was feeling better on the bike and was able to be more aggressive and feel the bike better, giving me the chance to work better with my team and work more precisely and I would say it’s been a wonderful season with 3 three wins and a podium in Brno, I am very happy.”

The season will only spur him on to do better in 2021 with his mentor Valentino Rossi also sharing the garage with him as he moves from the factory team, it is clear the Petronas team is the stronger of the two, it will be interesting to see how 2021 goes, there is no doubt Morbidelli will be a title contender.
