MotoGP: Takaaki Nakagami: “We have had a good season so far”
Takaaki Nakagami, despite not scoring a single podium yet, sits in P7 overall with one of the most consistent records of the season.
The Japanese rider is yet to finish outside of the top 10 on the 2019 Repsol Honda RC213V, the same one ridden by Jorge Lorenzo last season in which the 5 x champion failed to make a single top 10 finish.
Nakagami has raced in podium contention and is missing that extra 5% to get him to the top 3, or even the top step, but he and his LCR Honda team have been working, using Marc Marquez’s data and technicians to decipher how to pull every last bit of performance from the Honda and translate this knowledge into performance on track.
He is having a stunning year so far and is riding very impressively, sitting higher in the standings than 7 podium finishers and 2 race winners,
Speaking on his season he said, “I think it’s been up and down, at Jerez the result was unexpected in P10, but we finished in fourth.
After this, we have been consistent in P6 and P7 fighting for the top group. We need some extra performance, if we get this performance we can have a good second half of the season.”
The championship still playing on his mind saying, “We are inside the game, this season is special you need to be consistent and not make mistakes, we have done a good season so far.
We are ready for every race and we will try to do our best performance and the results will come, I believe in the team.”
Nakagami is looking to put Japan back on the map in the premier class this season and is more than fast enough to be able to do so.
