WSBK Portimao: Baz on top in FP2

Ten Kate Yamaha rider Loris Baz tops this afternoon’s FP2 session ahead of Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea to continue Yamaha’s dominance so far in Portugal.

While Yamaha finished FP1 with first and second position, not much has changed in FP2 as French rider Loris Baz outpaced this morning’s fastest man Toprak Razgatlioglu to finish afternoon’s practice in the first position, with Turkish Yamaha factory rider settling for second, while world champion Jonathan Rea ended the practice in the third position whilst demonstrating some serious pace on used tyres.

Michael Ruben Rinaldi continued his recent form to finish the practice in the fourth position and again as a top Ducati, with Ducati factory man Scott Redding showing a big improvement in the last 15 minutes of the session to complete the top 5, which were split by only 0.145s in the end. Another big improver was BMW’s Tom Sykes, who was riding at the sharp end of the field for the majority of the session, before being forced to settle for sixth position, just ahead of second Pata Yamaha rider Michael van der Mark and factory Honda Alvaro Bautista, who also fell without consequences in the middle of the session at turn 6 before finishing eighth, second factory Kawasaki rider Alex Lowes and second BMW factory rider Eugene Laverty completed the top 10.
