British Superbikes – Donington Park Friday roundup
Britain has superbikes racing again on its shores in 2020, after Donington Park opened its doors for on track action, although there will be no spectators.
Using the national circuit for a triple-header to open the season, Friday practice came to a close with the McAms Yamaha rider Jason O’Halloran on top, the Australian beating former MotoGP rider Hector Barbera by just 0.019s. They were followed by Andrew Irwin on the stylish new Honda Fireblade to round out the top 3. Championship favourite Josh Brookes was 4th on his VisonTrack Ducati and Danny Buchan rounded out the top 5 on his Massingberd-Mundy Kawasaki machine.
Kyle Ryde impressed after his step up as the GP2 class champion, ending up 10th on his Buildbase Suzuki and SSP600 champion Jack Kennedy was just behind in 14th aboard his Santander Salt TAG Racing Yamaha.
We could have a fantastic season on our hands for 2020, with the top 16 riders covered by only 0.0772s, showing the closeness of the field. Last year’s championship 3rd place man Tommy Bridewell could only manage 15th, showing the quality in the field.
