MotoGP Silverstone FP2: Fabio Quartararo leads following crash

Fabio Quartararo has led the FP2 session and overall times despite a crash.

Fabio Quartararo managed to terrify and astonish MotoGP fans within the same session as he does so well, the Frenchman was one of three riders to finish under the 2 minute marker very nearly breaking into the 1:58’s with a blisteringly fast lap time to place him in P1, 0.512 seconds faster than Jack Miller in second. Quartararo’s session was almost over mid-way through following a nasty crash which saw him lay at the side of the track holding his ankle before getting up and limping off, thankfully after the adrenaline cooled off the pain subsided and he was able to return to the track and take P1.

He led a Ducati duo with Jack Miller and Jorge Martin taking second and third place, both riders within the 1:59 lap times but more than half a second back from the rapid Quartararo who genuinely seems untouchable at the moment even with his massive crashes. The Repsol Honda riders missed out on a 1:59 lap time by less than a tenth of a second each as the pair finish in P4 and P5, Pol Espargaro leading Marc Marquez for a change. The Honda seems to be going quite well here in Silverstone but only time will tell if they can be strong during the race later this weekend.

Francesco Bagnaia went sixth fastest 0.051 seconds behind Marc Marquez, the Italian rider leading Aleix Espargaro in P7. Espargaro engaged in some ‘friendly fire’ with brother Pol who slowed him down on the racing line, unleashing a whole host of anger from Aleix directed at his brother, if Aleix could race as fast as he gets angry he’d be a 10 x world champion by now.

Rounding off the top 10 were Brad Binder, Alex Rins and Valentino Rossi who finds himself in a provisional Q2 position with both Iker Lecuona and Enea Bastianini also in Q2.

Currently running outside of Q2 is 2020 World Champion Joan Mir, Johann Zarco, Takaaki Nakagami and even Miguel Oliveira way down in P19.
