MotoGP: Garrett Gerloff to make MotoGP debut at Assen

Garrett Gerloff will once again get a shot riding a MotoGP bike.

Garrett Gerloff will replace the injured Franco Morbidelli at the Sepang Racing Team in Assen, Morbidelli has been forced to sit out of the race weekend following continued issues with knee injuries, he has been reportedly injured himself again during training. The Italian suffered a knee injury at the ranch before the Le Mans race, the injury was kept a secret until he collapsed in pit lane forcing a statement to be made. He would then crash in the race and was stretchered off before remounting and completing the race.

Multiple WorldSBK podium finisher Garrett Gerloff will once again get a MotoGP call up after being drafted in last year to replace Valentino Rossi at Valencia who was sidelined with a positive COVID-19 test before testing negative twice on Friday and taking back over from the American on the Saturday. Gerloff would complete FP1 and FP2 in place of Valentino and impressed many with his instant adaptation to the M1 machine.

He is being given his second chance and will ride for the Sepang Racing Team on the 2019 Yamaha M1.

Garrett Gerloff – I’m excited for the opportunity ahead, I’m not someone who runs away from a challenge, so I’m ready to get to the track. It’ll be a new circuit for me, I like trying new tracks, it looks fun, fast and flowing, and really suits my riding style. I’m looking forward to jumping on the Yamaha M1 again and twisting the throttle. We’ll see how things go, but I feel good and would like to thank Yamaha and the team for considering me. It won’t be easy, but I’m going to give it my best shot!
