Moto3 Le Mans FP2: Gabriel Rodrigo improves times by 11 seconds

Le Mans has dried up and Gabriel Rodrigo has taken full advantage of this.

A wet FP1 session in Le Mans saw 17 riders hit the deck including title leader Pedro Acosta as lap times started at 1:53 and crept over the 2-minute mark, thankfully to the delight of the riders, teams and gear sponsors the track has now dried up and we saw the times drop down to 1:42 with some riders once again crashing but nowhere near the same amount as FP1.

Gabriel Rodrigo was the rider who took full advantage of the drying track to lead the way for the lightweight class 0.126 seconds ahead of Darryn Binder in second place, Rodrigo is a rider desperate to take a podium this year after only taking 1 in over 100 starts, time in the Moto3 class is running out for the Argentine rider.

Jaume Masia was third fastest, a rider who was expected to battle for the title and lead the way in the Ajo Moto3 team, instead we have seen his 16-year-old teammate obliterate the competition but I am sure you are sick about reading about Acosta now who finished in P18, sat in second place in the standings is Niccolo Antonelli who finished in fourth place in the FP2 session, Antonelli is another rider desperate to gain a Moto2 contract for next year as his time is also running out in the lightweight class.

Deniz Oncu is a rider who isn’t too popular in the paddock at the moment causing skittles at the last corner at Jerez taking down Darryn Binder and Jaume Masia with him with Binders brake disk slicing into Oncu’s neck in a petrifying accident, Oncu’s performance at Jerez was a stand out performance leading most of the race and showed the side of him we have been waiting for for a few years now, lets see if he can continue this, he leads an Italian duo of Andrea Migno and Romano Fenati.

Ryusei Yamanaka took seventh place overall, the Japanese rider impressing after his move from Honda to KTM just ahead of Stefano Nepa and fellow Japanese rider Ayumu Sasaki.

There were some top names who were unable to lay down lap times worthy of a good position with the riders ending up down the order including Pedro Acosta in P18, Jeremy Alcoba in P19, Izan Guevara in P20 and race winner Tatsuki Suzuki in P24.
