Moto3 Doha RACE: Pedro Acosta wins from pit lane!

Pedro Acosta takes a stunning victory in the Moto3 class in only his second race.

Wow, just WOW! Moto3 is so unpredictable it’s not even funny at this point, Pedro Acosta took the victory in the lightweight class in only his second ever race in the class at a track he had never raced at before last weekend, he came into Moto3 after winning the 2020 Red Bull Rookies championship and his momentum has not slowed down taking P2 overall last weekend and the race win today in Qatar. You’d think starting from pit lane would slow him down but evidently not in the slightest! A really impressive ride from the rookie.

Darryn Binder came home in second place, the South African was involved in an incident involving Jeremy Alcoba and John McPhee with Alcoba taking McPhee out of the race, McPhee’s awful luck once again coming to haunt him, unfortunately, we saw the pair engage in a fight in the gravel with various kicks so we are expecting penalties to be handed out to the pair of them. Niccolo Antonelli joined them on the podium taking his first podium since Jerez 2019, he is fighting for his career this season with the rookies coming in and performing.

In P4 we see Andrea Migno who had a solid race fighting with Kaito Toba who really wasn’t scared of fighting aggressively pushing riders into the grass and generally just defending his position as hard as he can, he beat rookie Guevara in P6 who suffered a hard warm up crash with worries he would not race, thankfully he was deemed to be OK and came home in a great P6, his fantastic rookie ride being overshadowed by the winner.

Ayumu Sasaki took his first finish of the year with Ryusei Yamanaka taking his best ever result in P8 ahead of Jaume Masia who clearly doesn’t have Gabriel Rodrigo on his Christmas card list, covering his suit with tyre marks before banging fairings with Ayumu Sasaki with Romano Fenati in P10.

Further down we see Jason Dupasquier in P11 and Maximilian Kofler in P14, the duo taking their first points last weekend and repeating the feat again this week. Many of the riders who started in pit lane, unfortunately, finished out of the points.

Sadly there were 5 DNF’s of McPhee and Alcoba who were previously mentioned with Adrian Fernandez and Xavier Artigas being booted off the track by Carlos Tatay who did the same to Dennis Foggia last time out, no doubt there will be punishments for the 2019 Red Bull Rookies champion. Filip Salac was a rider in the shout of the win before an unfortunate racing incident with Ayumu Sasaki knocked him off.
