Moto2/3 Jerez Test Results: Sam Lowes and Dennis Foggia top the time sheets

Sam Lowes has once again proven he has a point to prove this year leading the Jerez test with Dennis Foggia eying the title in Moto3.

Sam Lowes has shown blistering pace throughout the 2021 pre-season after narrowly missing out on the 2020 Moto2 World Championship, the British rider is back again in 2021 with the Marc VDS team and aims to take what is his, the World Championship. The British rider has adapted incredibly well to the Kalex machine which took Alex Marquez to the 2019 Moto2 World Championship and with the fire in his belly after an injury ruined his chances of the 2020 title he knows he has to give it his all this year to take what is rightfully his, proving this in testing.

MV Agusta’s Simone Corsi has proven that the MV Agusta is far from slow with a time just 0.120 from Sam Lowes’ best lap time of the day, the Moto2 riders still lapping around 1 second off the circuit Moto2 record but are improving gradually, slotting in behind Corsi was Marcos Ramirez on the American Racing Kalex, his teammate Beaubier not appearing on the timesheets.

Bo Bendsneyder has proven his worth and that he deserves a Moto2 seat in P5, the Dutchman originally signing a contract for World Supersport before Bo was offered the chance to remain in Moto2 on competitive machinery, replacing Kasma Daniel in the team Remy Gardner won the final race of the 2020 season.

Further down the time sheet Aron Canet made an appearance, the Spanish rider adapting incredibly quickly to life in Moto2 and aiming to take some podiums and possible wins, he lead Augusto Fernandez who also aims to reach his previous form in the class after his 3 race wins for the Pons team before a move over to Marc VDS.

The Moto2 rookies of Tony Arbolino, Albert Arenas and Ai Ogura very kindly grouped themselves up in P10, P11 and P12 respectively with MV Agusta riders Lorenzo Baldassarri and Tommaso Marcon placing in P13 and P14, CEV Moto2 rider Piotr Biesiekirski taking up the last placed slot in Moto2, 2.848 seconds from Sam Lowes’ time.

Moto3

In Moto3 it was Dennis Foggia who set the fastest time of the day ahead of fellow compatriot Romano Fenati who rides the second evolution of the Husqvarna FR250GP at Jerez. Moto3 rookie Izan Guevara is looking to make an impression this year after taking back to back European Talent Cup and CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship titles, the 16-year-old Spaniard wasting no time showing everyone how it is done on the new Gas Gas Moto3 bike, his teammate Sergio Garcia took P4 behind him.

Moto3 rookie and podium finisher Xavier Artigas is another rider to watch out for, the young Spaniard was the CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship runner up to Guevara and already has a podium in the Moto3 class thanks to his unbelievable Valencia 2019 wildcard ride which saw him lead much of the race before taking a podium as a wildcard, he finished in P6.

Ryusei Yamanaka took P7 as he moves from Honda to KTM, riding for the Prustel GP team with Adrian Fernandez who is the teammate to Romano Fenati in the Husqvarna team sitting just behind him in P8, the 16-year-old also getting his first taste of the world championship Husqvarna after previously riding for them in the CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship, he replaces Alonso Lopez in the team.

Running up the back of the pack we saw Kaito Toba who has moved to the CIP team and his teammate Maximilian Kofler in P9 and P11 respectively, Yamanaka’s teammate Jason Dupasquier sandwiched between them in P10. Running completely at the back was Andi Farid who steps down from the Moto2 class into Moto3, he was a full second slower than Kofler ahead of him and 3.439 seconds from Foggia.
