MotoGP: Maverick Vinales: “We do not understand why the bike does not work”

Maverick Vinales struggled a lot during the European GP, majorly hindered by his pit lane start.

Maverick Vinales, plus the rest of the Yamaha riders, all struggled in the European GP in one way or another.

Fabio Quartararo crashed out on the opening lap, re-joining to take P14 whilst Maverick Vinales started from pit lane due to using his sixth engine of this season.

In other news, Valentino Rossi suffered a DNF in the early stages of the race due to a problem with the Yamaha. We spoke to a rider which we will not name who said, “There was an electrical problem, they could not get the bike started, then the bike was working after they changed something.” Clearly, more than meets the eye with Rossi with various sources confirming a fuelling problem with the bike, which may not be the full story.

Franco Morbidelli also backed up his race win in Aragon with a P11 finish, also struggling, putting three Yamaha’s in the bottom 4 as only 14 riders finished the race, showing that all the Yamaha’s struggled at the European GP.

Vinales confirmed that Yamaha are a bit of a loss as to why their bike is not working as it should, working some weekends before falling apart a week later, he said, “It is frustrating that we do not know why the bike does not work, this is more frustrating than losing the championship as in the end we want to win races. We do not understand why the bike does not work.

“It is difficult today with the situation [pit lane start], we see the level [of the bike] is not at the maximum and our competitors are very strong, we will try to move and work a little bit more.”

Yamaha have tried all they can this year, including changing the valves which has given them a penalty for not following correct procedures to do so, the positive here is that they have next week at the same circuit to try and figure things out.
