MotoGP: Francesco Bagnaia: “We have to be consistent and not make mistakes”

Francesco Bagnaia has had an up and down 2020 season, leading races but breaking his leg and suffering crashes.

The Italian currently sits in P13 overall in the MotoGP standings, scoring 1 podium, 2 x DNF and a P7 then P6 in his 5 starts in MotoGP, missing the Brno and two Austrian rounds following a broken tibia in FP1 at Brno. He also led at the second Misano race before crashing out on what he feels was some dirt or a tear-off visor, losing the chance to win his first race at home.

This is also not forgetting the Andalucian GP when he was running in P2 and a mechanical issue caused his bike to break down on him which was the cause of his other DNF. If he had won the Misano race and taken seconds in the Andalucia GP, he would be sat in 4th overall in the standings, even after missing three races which is a fantastic record, but luck has not been on his side this season.

“I can be happy with my performances but not about my consistency, we had a little bad luck in Brno when a stupid crash broke my tibia” which as we have mentioned could have potentially have put him in the championship lead by now.

Missing the three races has majorly hindered his season, “I missed 3 important races, our bike is so fast and strong in those tracks [Brno and Austria].

Anyway, when I came back I arrived on the podium and fought for the victory in the second race but I crashed out.”

“From now, we have to be consistent in the races and not make mistakes, we have to learn a lot in the last few races and continue like this.”

If Bagnaia can keep up his consistency, we are likely to see him shoot up the standings overall and with his new Ducati deal, 2021 could be an even stronger year.
