MotoGP COTA FP2: Marc Marquez continues the love story

Marc Marquez takes his second P1 of the weekend leading FP2.

Marc Marquez leads the way yet again in FP2 at COTA, continuing his streak here of adoration for the track. Marquez has historically been strong on American soil and a gammy shoulder won’t get the way of his speed here, if Marc wants to win he will have Jack Miller contend with Miller looking unbelievably strong very nearly knocking Marquez off the top spot in his final lap of the day, eventually finishing in P2 only 0.015 seconds back.

Fabio Quartararo was third fastest only 0.202 seconds from Marc Marquez, the title leader is aiming to leave the weekend with a title lead large enough to win the title next time out at Misano however it’s not going to be easy with many riders looking rapid including the previously mentioned riders. Marquez is in good Honda company in FP2 with two Honda riders joining him in the top 5 with Pol Espargaro in fourth and Takaaki Nakagami 0.060 seconds behind Espargaro in P5, looks like Honda enjoy COTA!

Next up were the Ducati’s with a trio led by Francesco Bagnaia with the Pramac Ducati riders following suit in P7 and P8 split by 0.053 seconds, the track is supposedly a Ducati track yet the timesheets are being dominated by Honda!

Rounding out the top 10 were 2019 race winner Alex Rins and last time out podium finisher Enea Bastianini who took a stunning, shocking third place at Misano seemingly coming from absolutely nowhere to do so, P10 overall is very solid at the moment with a Q2 spot being locked down. Just outside in the Q1 spots were Brad Binder, Luca Marini, Joan Mir and Andrea Dovizioso.
