Bautista dominates WorldSBK Aragon Race 2 as Razgatlioglu extends lead over Bulega

Alvaro Bautista obliterated the rest of the field to take victory in Race 2 at Aragon, the Spaniard leading Toprak Razgatlioglu over the line, Razgatlioglu extending his lead over Bulega.

Bautista was untouchable during Race 2, as the Ducati rider traded lap records with Razgatlioglu behind on the BMW.

It was a clean start to the final race of the weekend, as Bautista maintained his lead over Razgatlioglu heading into the first corner. Nicolo Bulega would be attacked early on by Andrea Iannone, Bulega seemingly struggling on his Ducati as the Italian sunk further through the field, the rookie eventually settling down in seventh place before regrouping.

Meanwhile, Razgatlioglu and Bautista would each trade lap records and fastest laps, with Razgatlioglu eventually easing further behind in the attempt to not overheat and stress the tyres too much. Bautista would extend his lead to well over three seconds towards the end of the race, as Bulega managed to come back through the field, overtaking Garrett Gerloff and Andrea Iannone to reclaim third place, albeit well over five seconds away from the leaders.

Gerloff and Iannone would fight until the chequered flag for fourth position, as Danilo Petrucci and the rest of the field were a few seconds further behind. Iannone, who took victory in Race 1 this weekend, was considerably slower than the riders ahead despite having taken a win earlier in the weekend.

Alvaro Bautista would come across the line to take victory at Aragon, the reigning champion closing down on Razgatlioglu in the World Championship, despite being over 80 points away. Nicolo Bulega’s disappointing weekend means that the rookie has taken a small hit in the championship, a retirement in Race 1, third place in Superpole and third place again in Race 2 ensures that the Ducati rider is still just within 40 points of the championship leader, Toprak Razgatlioglu.
