Razgatlioglu wins WorldSBK Czech Superpole race, taking 50th career victory as Bautista Crashes

Toprak Razgatlioglu won the Superpole Race to take his 50th career victory as Alvaro Bautista crashed.

Toprak Razgatlioglu would lead initially, making a good start with his BMW. However, Nico Bulega and Alvaro Bautista would make their way past the Turkish rider at the end of the first lap, the Ducati riders looking to disrupt the rhythm of Razgatlioglu, who has dominated the Czech World Superbike round up to this point,

Iannone would have a wheelie off the start, destroying his momentum on the run into the first corner and sinking down to 9th position at the start of the race, only managing to gain a couple of places at the end of the 10-lap sprint. Domi Aegerter would crash on the opening lap aboard his Yamaha, managing to recover to 18th place for the start of Race 2.

At the start of the third lap, Razgatlioglu would dive up the inside of Bautista into Turn 1, as Sam Lowes and Scott Redding both crashed out of the race at the first corner, Lowes’ Kawasaki throwing him from the bike, as the stricken motorcycle then collided with Redding. Razgatlioglu would then attack Bulega at the end of the third lap, the pair duelling in the final two corners, before the BMW rider managed to overtake Bulega into the first corner at the start of the next lap.

Jonathan Rea would begin attacking Michael Van Der Mark for 9th place, Rea finished Race 1 in 10th place on Saturday and was looking to improve on his grid position and potential result for Race 2 later on Sunday.

Razgatlioglu would open his lead to over a second with just a handful of laps remaining, the Turkish rider looked unstoppable after the Ducati’s had initially delayed him from taking the lead.

Bautista would dive to the inside of Bulega into Turn 1 on the final lap, running Bulega off the circuit as Bautista then crashed on the entry to Turn 2, the Spaniard now losing even more points in the championship to Razgatlioglu, nearly 80 points down on Razgatlioglu. Alex Lowes would score a podium after that mistake from Bautista, with Bulega finishing in second place.

Toprak Razgatlioglu would come home to take his 50th career victory in the World Superbikes, joining an exclusive club of Jonathan Rea, Alvaro Bautista, Carl Fogarty and Troy Bayliss.
