MotoGP: RNF Racing Yamaha unveil 2022 livery and riders
RNF Racing have unveiled their new 2022 livery with riders Andrea Dovizioso and Darryn Binder.
One chapter closes and another opens, following the withdrawal of Petronas as a title sponsor, the Petronas SRT team were forced to cease activities at the end of the 2021 season and rebuild over again. They shut the doors on their Moto3 and Moto2 projects to focus solely on MotoGP, after losing 2021 riders Franco Morbidelli and Valentino Rossi to internal promotion and retirement they were forced to hire two more riders for the 2022 season.
These riders come in the shape of experienced rider Andrea Dovizioso and MotoGP rookie Darryn Binder who has made the monumental jump from the Moto3 class to MotoGP. The team have proven previously to be incredibly good at nurturing talent as we saw with Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli who are now in the factory Yamaha team, Quartararo being crowned the 2021 champion, now they must do it once again and pairing up an experienced veteran of the series with a class rookie is the best way to go about it.
Andrea Dovizioso returns to a Yamaha after a long stint with Ducati where he finished as the MotoGP runner up on three occasions behind Marc Marquez, now equipped with a bike that turns and current machinery all eyes are on the Italian for a title charge in the satellite outfit, Quartararo and Morbidelli battled for the title with the team in 2020 therefore there’s no reason why Dovizioso cannot do the same.
Darryn Binder is a controversial move with many stating that he is not ready for the pressure and speed of MotoGP, especially after a crash which decided the Moto3 World Championship last year in Portimao, despite this Binder has shown very strong pace and rapid improvement in the pre-season tests and genuinely could be a dark horse for this year, he is on a one year contract and therefore will be doing his best to ensure he can prove himself and earn a 2023 seat.
