Moto2 Algarve Qualifying: Raul Fernandez takes pole with record pace

Pole hound Raul Fernandez takes yet another pole position with the lap record to boot.

Raul Fernandez destroyed yet another lap record today in Moto2 to take his seventh pole position of the year, a stunning record for anyone let alone a rookie, he improved the previous record held by Remy Gardner by a full 0.346 seconds to ensure he starts tomorrows race from the best position possible at the front of the grid with his teammate and fellow title contender in tow. Gardner had a great recovery after sitting in P17 with barely five minutes on the clock, he was able to jump up to P8 overall before finally arriving in P2 on the grid tomorrow a huge 0.269 seconds back from Raul. Joining the Red Bull Ajo riders on the front row is Fabio Di Giannantonio who has had a pretty rough weekend after having his bags stolen on Thursday, despite this he finished up in P3 and has eyes on the podium.

Aron Canet suffered a late crash stopping him from improving his time to try and get a front-row start, he comes home in a solid fourth place knowing he has more in the tank come tomorrow to battle for another rostrum finish, joining him on row two are Augusto Fernandez and the impressive Cameron Beaubier who returns to Portimao with knowledge of the track, we know what he can do when he knows a track as he proved in COTA, we are excited to see what he can do tomorrow!

Row three was headed by Marco Bezzecchi who has struggled slightly this weekend to get himself up the timesheets, no doubt he will be disappointed with this result leading Sam Lowes and Ai Ogura on his row as Jorge Navarro rounded out the top 10.
