Moto3 COTA Race: Izan Guevara wins red flagged race

Izan Guevara has won his first Moto3 race following a red flag.

Izan Guevara is probably the only rider in history to lead a race, get hit with a red flag, lead the restart before suffering a mechanical failure and losing his first victory, smashing up his garage before being handed the victory for his seven completed laps in the first race before the first red flag.

It was a race whereby the results don’t matter too much, it’s incredible to see Izan win his first race of course but we could very easily be sat here mourning the loss of yet another rider or three following the absolutely horrific crash we witnessed in the Moto3 race caused by Alcoba’s front tyre making contact with the rear of Oncu causing Alcoba to crash. Alcoba went down into the path of the riders behind him with Andrea Migno and Pedro Acosta being catapulted into the air, Acosta going towards the Armco and somehow not making contact and Alcoba somehow not being hit.

It’s a credit to all the safety gear the riders were wearing today that there were no serious injuries, we thought we would give them some credit:

Pedro Acosta – MT Helmet, Alpinestars boots, gloves and suit

Andrea Migno – AGV Helmet, Dainese boots, gloves and suit

Jeremy Alcoba – Shark Helmet, Rev-It suit and gloves and TCX boots

All riders are equipped with airbags in their suits.

We are going to use this platform and race report to ask the organisers to please look to improve the safety before we see another fatality, the race report is not important.
