WorldSBK: Scott Redding signs for BMW alongside Van der Mark for 2022

Scott Redding has been confirmed at the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team.

Scott Redding will make a shock switch to the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team for 2022, leaving behind Ducati as tensions continue to rise in the Bologna camp, instead embarking on a journey with the German manufacturer alongside Michael van der Mark.

Redding currently sits in P3 in the standings behind Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea with a total of eight wins and 22 podiums in his 1 and a half-season tenure in the production-based class, boasting an extensive career in Grand Prix racing including 125cc and Moto2 wins alongside MotoGP class podiums. Since his switch to the WorldSBK class he has proven to be a consistent title fighter and will be a valuable asset to the BMW squad for 2022 as the German manufacturer aims to build on 2021 with their new M1000RR machine which already has proven to be competitive.

Alvaro Bautista is strongly rumoured to return to Ducati to replace the outgoing Scott Redding.

Marc Bongers, BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director: “We are very pleased to welcome Scott to our WorldSBK family. In the last years, he has proven to make a great transition from GP through BSB into WorldSBK, to become one of the strongest riders in the field. We are therefore convinced that Scott, with his fighting spirit and absolute will to win, is the perfect new addition for the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team and another reinforcement for our entire WorldSBK project. A warm welcome to Scott, we are looking forward to a strong collaboration.”

Shaun Muir, BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team Principal: “We have been following Scott’s career for a number of years and are delighted that he will now become a part of our team. His successes speak for themselves and it is great that he will bring his skills and his experience to the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team in the future. With getting him on board, BMW Motorrad Motorsport once more underlines the huge importance of the WorldSBK project and the aim of establishing themselves at the very top.”
