Moto2 Le Mans FP2: Sam Lowes on top in France

Sam Lowes finishes Friday as the fastest man overall.

Sam Lowes was the fastest man today on French soil in a damp and wet Le Mans where the temperatures were low and the crashes were high, we saw many riders crash out of all sessions today with a number of 40+ crashes being more than likely which is fairly staggering when you think about it. The British rider Sam Lowes has gone well around Le Mans and even won the race here last year in similar conditions meaning he is a contender for victory this weekend as he aims to make up the three championship points to Remy Gardner who currently leads the way for the intermediate class.

Sitting in second place in the session only 0.075 behind Lowes is Raul Fernandez, the impressive Spanish rookie has looked solid in every track he has ridden at so could be looking to pull a result out of this weekend, he is another rider within a shout of the title only 6 points behind his teammate Remy Gardner. Just behind Fernandez we saw Marco Bezzecchi and the other unrelated Fernandez namely Agusto, Agusto has shown much promise and speed these last few races and a podium could be within reach this weekend.

Title leader Remy Gardner rounded off the top 5 only 0.333 from Lowes’ P1 worthy time showing much strength on the Red Bull Ajo KTM Moto2 bike as talk continues about a move to MotoGP for him next year in the Tech3 KTM squad. Niccolo Bulega finished just behind Gardner and ahead of another strong rookie with Ai Ogura, Ogura suffered a crash this morning in FP1 but is another rider who has impressed with multiple top 10 finishes in the early stages of his Moto2 career.

FP1’s fastest man Aron Canet just about improved on his time from this morning in P11 gaining himself a provisional Q2 place with Jerez winner Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marcos Ramirez also hovering around the P14 drop zone.

Last years pole man Joe Roberts is currently in P17 and outside of the realm of a Q2 place, he will be looking to make some progress tomorrow in FP3 to ensure he doesn’t have to give himself some extra work in pushing into the Q2 session, he is joined in Q! by some strong talent including Bo Bendsneyder, Hector Garzo, Jake Dixon and more.
