Moto2 Le Mans FP2: Aron Canet beats MotoGP times

Aron Canet is the fastest man in a damp moto2 session beating MotoGP times.

The top 5 riders in the Moto2 session set lap times quicker than Jack Miller’s MotoGP lap time which gave him P1, the Moto2 riders were able to attack the track in dryer conditions which saw the times dramatically drop therefore we can expect a push later on today in the MotoGP FP2 session, in the middleweight class it was Aron Canet who took the honours of P1 on the Boscoscuro chassis. Canet leads Stefano Manzi in second place, the Italian rider has moved from the MV Agusta machine over to the Pons Moto2 bike and has not performed as we expected him to so far, let’s hope his second place in Le Mans is the start of some good performances.

Sam Lowes was the third-fastest rider, he won the race here last year and will be aiming to get his title fight back on track after crashing out of Portimao before a podium in Jerez allowed him to close the championship gap down to 3 points to Remy Gardner who leads, the title leader taking P9 overall in the session ahead of the wet weather specialist Hafizh Syahrin who spent much of his youth riding around in the wet taking a podium on his Moto2 debut.

Last time out winner Fabio Di Giannantonio occupied the fourth place spot and is another rider aiming to battle for the title this year ahead of his MotoGP move for 2022, not much is known about the move for the time being with the team and rider being incredibly secretive, no doubt we will find out more as the weeks roll on, he led Augusto Fernandez in fifth place who’s another rider finding his form after being absent in 2020 after his move to the Marc VDS squad didn’t plan out as expected following a front tyre profile change, he battled for the podium in Jerez before crashing out showing flashes of his 2019 self.

In P6 and P7 finished the Petronas SRT boys with Vierge leading Dixon who led the race here last year before a crash ruled him out of tasting champagne in what would’ve been a historic victory, he is aiming to put this right this year in 2021 and we will have to see how that goes, he leads Schrotter in P8.

Further down the order rookie Yari Montella made a good start in P12, the Moto2 European champion seemingly enjoying the wet weather in France as fellow rookie Raul Fernandez took P19 overall.
