Sam Lowes takes his third pole position of the year in Portimao.
Sam Lowes does it again taking another pole position in 2021 despite a crash, he takes his third pole of the year continuing his 100% pole record edging out Remy Gardner by a minuscule 0.023 noting that he has improved his stability on his Kalex Moto2 and knows what he needs to do to win the race tomorrow. Lowes is on an incredible streak at the moment and fully has his sights set on the Moto2 title he has been chasing for many years now, starting the season with 2 wins and 3 pole positions he is in a good place to dominate come race day tomorrow.
Remy Gardner is another rider who is impressing this year after his switch to the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad, he has jelled instantly to the team and the bike and is impressing many this year taking 2 x P2 finishes in Doha and qualified in second place here in Portimao, rounding off the front row we see Xavi Vierge who is a surprise given that he has come through from Q1 to take P3 which is an achievement in itself.
2021 really is the year of the rookies, Ai Ogura you are seriously impressive! Ogura takes P4 just 0.220 seconds from pole position which shows good stead for the rest of the season given how quickly he has adapted to the class and the bike, looking forward to seeing if he can battle for some podiums this year, he finishes ahead of Marco Bezzecchi and Augusto Fernandez, a good result for Fernandez who struggled a lot last year, we are happy to see him at the front after such a tough season and we know he is strong enough to battle for wins.
Well Albert Arenas is rookie number 2 of 3 in the top 10, the 2020 Moto3 World Champion is showing some good speed and consistency here after winning the title at the track last year and heads the third row in P7 and is joined by Joe Roberts and his teammate Aron Canet.
Rounding off the top 10 was the impressive Raul Fernandez who took a podium in the Doha GP and unfortunately had his lap time taken away from him here in Q2 but P10 isn’t the end of the world, joining him on this row are Somkiat Chantra and Hector Garzo.
