MotoGP Catalunya: Sam Lowes and Raul Fernandez lead FP1 in Moto2 and Moto3

Sam Lowes and Raul Fernandez were the fastest men in the FP1 session this morning at Catalunya.

Sam Lowes is chasing his first Moto2 win since 2016 and is improving every single race and session, finishing in P1 in FP1 at Catalunya, 0.200 from title leader Luca Marini in P2, the pair had a lot of pace in FP1 with third place man Tetsuta Nagashima a massive 0.309 from P2 of Marini.

20-year old Aron Canet was the fourth fastest rider at his home GP in Catalunya and is chasing his first Moto2 podium, Fabio Di Giannantonio was the rider sat in fifth, struggling all season long on the Speed Up, he seems to have adjusted to the new front wheel size and has improved every weekend since.

Title contender Marco Bezzecchi was the sixth-placed rider, having a stunning second season in the Moto2 class following his tough season on the Tech3 Red Bull KTM last year, he leads Jorge Martin who returns after missing both Misano races due to testing positive for COVID-19.

Augusto Fernandez is another rider struggling this season on the Marc VDS machine, leaving the Pons team which gave him victories as a rookie, he has now been struggling to get into the top 10, he finishes the session in P8 ahead of Bo Bendsneyder on the NTS Machine, showing some pace at the Catalan track.

Nicolo Bulega was the 10th placed man, 0.814 from P1.

Moto3:

In Moto3, Raul Fernandez once again leads a free practice session, something he has become accustomed to this season, he leads Romano Fenati by 0.390 with Fenati in second place, coming off of the back of his race win at Misano, the pair lead Tony Arbolino, the Italian taking third place.

Jaume Masia takes fourth place and will be looking for consistency this weekend following a troublesome season on the Honda after switching from KTM, Masia finishes just 0.032 faster than John McPhee in fifth place who is fighting for a Moto2 ride for the 2021 season.

Title leader Albert Arenas kick starts his weekend in sixth place in FP1 ahead of Niccolo Antonelli, a name we have barely mentioned this season, the 4 x Moto3 race winner looking to find some form.

Kaito Toba is another rider who is struggling this season in eighth place, switching from the Honda to the KTM, it has been a tough season for the Japanese rider.

The last two riders in the session are Gabriel Rodrigo and Filip Salac with Salac 0.835 from P1.
